I want to tile a 3 foot tall 3D item with broken glass mirror or broken plastic mirror material…?

ctive effect night or day. I have done a lot of mosaic tiling in the past and sometimes have used broken glass mirror quite effectively. This time I would like to try broken plastic mirror material but I am not that familiar with how much of a job it is to break it into small pieces without a lot of time-consuming work. I would like to know if anyone out there has worked with mirrored plastic. Is it a material that easily breaks like glass into small pieces or do you have to chop it, saw it or whatever else? Also, where is a good place to get such a material?

I’ve worked as a mosaic artist for about 7 years now, and although I have never worked with the plastic mirror that you are talking about I believe I am familiar with it. I think it is actually acrylic mirror and most hobby stores carry it for projects like doll house furniture or other crafts.
Since it is basically just acrylic sheet with a mirror finish I would think that any tool that can cut acrylic would work well on it. You could try using a carpet knife, a small saw, a hole saw & drill to cut out “dots”, or any other tool that would cut well through acrylic.

Or try checking your local craft store. Also, make sure that you use a glue that will work with plastic when you begin putting together your mosaic. Most glues should be fine, but always read the label first to make sure that it is compatible.
